The  Royal Automobile Club was formed in 1897 by Frederick Richard Simms, which set up an "associate section" to assist members with roadside assistance and to provide motoring services. The RAC have operated as one of the largest breakdown / recovery services / organisations in the UK, alongside the AA (Automile Association) since the start of the 20th century.

Here we see a double-sided mid-century (c.1950s/early '60s) enamel sign advertising the RAC's Rescue Service. Bright, bold and simple; this sign makes for an eye catching piece of vintage automobilia that has survived in near perfect condition.

Both sides of the sign remain in absolutely fantastic order, with vibrant colours and a lovely, even surface gloss (see the last photo where I've tried my best to deomonstrate this). Both of the original brass eyelets remain present in the original mounting holes, the sign sits perfectly flat and only has the most minor of chipping and some very light surface scratching... This is about as good as they come.

The sign measures 63cm high x 52.5cm wide
